Sayad & Biren, PC is a law firm engaged in the practice of employment and discrimination law, alternative dispute resolution and white-collar criminal defense representation. Since its inception in 1983, the firm has successfully represented individuals and companies in a wide variety of employment and discrimination matters and in the white collar criminal defense area as well. The firm's litigation practice includes legal representation in state and federal courts in California, Massachusetts and the District of Columbia and before administrative and governmental agencies, including the Department of Labor, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Both partners bring an invaluable perspective to the practice because of their diverse backgrounds and experience in successfully representing employees and employers.

The firm's employment practice is divided into two areas: Representation of Employees and Representation of Employers.

The firm provides employees, including former employees and applicants for employment, with general legal advice, counseling and representation regarding all aspects of employment law, including drafting employment contracts, executive employment opportunities, offer letters, independent contractor agreements, proprietary information and non-competition agreements and severance and settlement agreements. The firm litigates on behalf of employees in the areas of wrongful termination and related claims, discrimination based on gender, race, disability, national origin, age, sexual orientation, medical/family leave matters, sexual harassment, retaliation, defamation, privacy and unfair competition.

The firm provides employers, including start ups, internet, high tech, biotech and other companies, with advice on employment law compliance, including compliance with anti-discrimination laws and wage and hour laws as well as drafting employment manuals, personnel policies and procedures, employment contracts, executive employment agreements, offer letters, independent contractor agreements, and severance/settlement agreements. The firm also advises and counsels employers regarding issues of discipline and termination, reductions in force, privacy, trade secret protection, and unfair competition. The firm conducts unlawful harassment and misconduct investigations and provides training to managers and employees. The firm litigates on behalf of employers in the areas of wrongful termination and related claims, discrimination based on gender, race, disability, national origin, age, sexual orientation, medical/family leave matters, sexual harassment, retaliation, defamation, privacy, unfair competition and related areas of law.

The firm values alternative dispute resolution and promotes mediations in particular as a means to resolve employment disputes. Both partners are experienced in the ADR arena. The firm's alternative dispute resolution services have successfully resolved disputes for both employers and employees without litigation and its high costs and risks.

Ms. Sayad also serves as a mediator and has been successful in resolving employment and related disputes for litigants in this area.

In addition, Ms. Sayad, who was an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, provides white-collar criminal defense representation to clients within and outside California.
